Terms of Service
Last updated: July 18, 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account, signing in, or using the hosted Spriterrific service at app.spriterrific.com, the Spriterrific HTTP API, or related hosted tools (together, the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service on behalf of a company or another person, you confirm you have authority to bind them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service.
You must be at least 13 years old (or the higher minimum age required in your country) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority, you may only use the Service with the consent of a parent or guardian.
2. What the Service is
Spriterrific is a hosted, prompt-first service for generating animated, game-ready pixel-art spritesheets. You describe characters and animations (via the web app or the HTTP API), and the Service generates images, animation frames, videos, and spritesheets you can download and use in your projects.
The underlying Spriterrific engine is also available as an open-source CLI under the Apache License 2.0; your use of that source code is governed by that license, not these Terms.
3. Third-party AI model providers
Generation is performed using third-party AI model providers (currently including fal.ai and the image/video models it hosts). When you submit a prompt or reference image, it is transmitted to those providers for processing under their own terms and policies. Provider availability, model behavior, and output quality are outside our control, and the set of providers and models may change at any time without notice.
You must not use the Service in a way that violates the acceptable-use policies of the underlying model providers. If a provider rejects, filters, or fails a generation, credits for failed steps are automatically refunded to your balance, and that refund is your sole remedy for the failed generation.
4. Accounts, API keys, and security
You sign in with Google, GitHub, or email through our authentication provider. You are responsible for your account, for keeping your sign-in method secure, and for all activity under your account and API keys. API keys are secrets: don’t share them, commit them to public repositories, or embed them in client-side code. If you believe a key is compromised, revoke it immediately in Settings.
We use your email address for account notices, receipts, and occasional product updates. We may limit, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the Service, or create risk for us, our providers, or other users.
5. Credits, plans, and billing
Generation is paid for with credits. New accounts receive a one-time grant of free trial credits. Additional credits come from subscription plans (plan credits are granted monthly — on annual plans too — and unused plan credits expire when the next monthly grant arrives) or top-up packs (which don’t expire). Payments are processed by our payment provider (Dodo Payments); subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, and cancelling stops future renewals.
Credits are debited when a generation job is enqueued; failed generation steps are automatically refunded to your balance. Except where required by law, credits have no cash value, are non-transferable, and purchases are non-refundable. We may change pricing prospectively; pricing changes never apply retroactively to credits you already hold.
6. Acceptable use
Spriterrific is built for all-ages game art. You agree not to use the Service to: (a) create or distribute content that is unlawful, infringing, or defamatory, that is sexually explicit or pornographic, or that sexualizes minors in any way; (b) create content intended to harass, deceive, or defraud others, including misleading depictions of real people; (c) violate the intellectual-property, privacy, or publicity rights of others; (d) probe, overload, disrupt, or circumvent the Service, its rate limits, its content filters, or its credit system (including creating multiple accounts to farm trial credits); (e) resell raw access to the Service or the underlying model providers; or (f) upload malware or content you don’t have the right to use.
You are solely responsible for the prompts and reference images you submit and for the assets you generate, publish, or ship. We may throttle, refuse, or remove content and suspend accounts that we reasonably believe violate this section, and we may report unlawful content to authorities where required.
7. Your content and generated assets
You retain all rights you hold in the prompts and reference images you submit (“Inputs”). You must have the necessary rights to any Inputs you provide. By submitting Inputs, you grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to store, process, reproduce, and transmit them as needed to operate the Service — including sending them to the AI model providers that perform generation.
As between you and us, you own the generated assets produced for you by the Service (“Outputs”), subject to the terms of the underlying model providers and to the extent ownership of AI-generated content is recognized in your jurisdiction. We claim no ownership over your Outputs and will not use your Inputs or Outputs to train models. Outputs are not exclusive: similar or identical outputs may be generated for other users from similar prompts.
8. Storage and sharing of generated content
Generated artifacts (images, spritesheets, videos, and run archives) are stored in cloud object storage so you can view and download them from your dashboard and the API. Artifacts are served from unlisted, hard-to-guess public URLs: they are not indexed or listed anywhere, but anyone who has a specific artifact URL can view that file without signing in. Uploaded reference images are handled more strictly: they are kept in private file storage, are not published to the public artifact store, and are only transmitted to the AI model providers that perform generation.
We may delete stored artifacts after a reasonable retention period, on account closure, or where content violates these Terms. Download and back up any assets you care about.
9. Intellectual property
The hosted Service, the Spriterrific name, logo, website copy, and branding remain the property of their owner and are not licensed to you except as needed to use the Service. The open-source Spriterrific CLI and engine are separately licensed under the Apache License 2.0.
If you believe content on the Service infringes your intellectual-property rights, contact us (section 15) with enough detail to identify the content and your claim, and we will review and remove infringing material where appropriate.
10. Service availability and changes
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, non-infringement, accuracy of generated output, or uninterrupted availability. Generative AI output varies: assets may contain errors or artifacts, and results may differ between runs. Review output before shipping it.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time. If we discontinue the paid Service entirely, we will make reasonable efforts to notify account holders in advance.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Spriterrific and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service — including damages arising from generated content or from third-party model providers.
Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of USD 50 or the amount you paid for the Service in the three months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Spriterrific and its operator from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your Inputs, your use of Outputs, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.
13. Governing law
The Service is operated from the United Kingdom. These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or the Service, are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction — except that if you are a consumer, you keep any mandatory protections and rights to bring proceedings in your country of residence.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “last updated” date. When you use the web app, you will be asked to review and accept the revised Terms before continuing. If you access the Service programmatically — for example with an API key through the HTTP API — your continued use of the Service after the updated “last updated” date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Continued use after acceptance means the revised Terms apply.
